If not today, when?

Let Go.

Often having what you want
 is the function of
letting go of what you have.

What are you hanging onto that is preventing you from enjoying what you have?

Say Good-Bye to your Beloved Cassette Tape Collection

If you own any cassette tapes,

you likely do not have a device to play these little music gems

... it's time to let them go.

Seriously ... It is 2011.

Yes, this includes your collection of Whitesnake, Depeche Mode, Wham!, Culture Club, Dokken and Men At Work

... especially your collection of "mix songs" made by your high school sweetheart

What was your first cassette tape purchase?
(mine: Michael Jackson, "Thriller")

One ... Two ... SCREAM!!!

When was the last time you screamed?

I'm talking:
-eyes closed
-fists clenched
-teeth exposed
-neck strained

Screaming is a great way to release a TON of energy from your mind and body.

You might think this is crazy, but I'm telling you it is awesome!

Close the windows, crank up the radio in your car and belt out the loudest noise you can conjure from your inner soul until your throat hurts.

... yeah baby!

How great do you feel now?

Breathe.

In through the nose
... Out through the mouth.

In through the nose
... Out through the mouth.

In through the nose ...... Out through the mouth.

In through the nose ....... Out through the mouth.

In through the nose ....... Out through the mouth.

In through the nose ....... Out through the mouth.

In through the nose ....... Out through the mouth.

In through the nose ....... Out through the mouth.

In through the nose ....... Out through the mouth.

In through the nose ....... Out through the mouth.

It's been one of those weeks for me, too.

Do you feel better?

Gotta Love Kant

A recent organizing project client found this quote on her Dove candy bar wrapper:

“Science is organized knowledge. Wisdom is organized life.”
~Immanuel Kant

Being a rocket scientist I love it!
Adding the fact of being a professional organizer ... I love it even more!!

Just as Einstein leads us to believe that wisdom is a lifelong attempt to acquire it.  Being organized is ALSO a lifelong attempt to acquire it.

I am the first to admit.  My life is in a constant state of chaos, meaning also my desk at any moment (and sock drawer) is always at the brink of disaster.

Believe you will be organized and work at it as you can.
Be consistent with your purpose and you will achieve your goal.

I believe in you.  Do you?

What is your favorite quote?

Farting and Organizing ... it's all good

So, my youngest son walks up to me and says:
"Mom, I think getting organized is like farting."
"Um ... why is that?", as I snicker (oh, you laughed too)
"Because both make you feel good after you do it."
~wise words from a 10.5 year old boy.

With two boys, we live daily on hourly fart jokes.

Getting organized truly does make you feel better.
You can breathe easier.
You're less stressed.
And, you're out enjoying life.

Find some time, even 5 minutes, each day to focus and become more organized.  Need some guidance on where to start?
Try these Challenges.

“Don’t take life too seriously.
You’ll never get out alive.”

Bugs Bunny
(note: In 21 years,  Bugs never dropped a fart joke)

What made you laugh today?

Let Go of Your Elephant

It's ugly.
It's useless.
It makes you cringe.

Even though [insert name here]
gave it to you,
Get it out of your home.

... and if they ask about it, blame me for getting rid of it.

What's your elephant?

Get Organized, Be Lazy

You know.
The more organized you are.
The lazier you can be.

Be lazy can be very, very good.
Another fabulous reason to get organized.

Perhaps in addition to being a professional organizer, I am also a productivity specialist in the art of enabling laziness. (just a thought)

How do you enjoy being lazy?

Organized = Smarter

Being organized is about working SMARTER, not harder.

There are certain things worthly of working hard for:
- "A+" on an exam
- Promotion at work
- 6 pack abs
- Achieving 3 stars on all levels of Angry Birds
(OK. that one may not be "worthy")

Searching for your keys, loosing that monthly report ... again and driving to the store to get milk only to come home and find out you need eggs and bread are NOT ways to be spending your precious time stressing out.

Getting organizing is not about working harder in life.
Getting organized is about working smarter.

Be smart.
Get organized.

What is worthy working hard for in your life?

Organize and Be Thankful

As you begin to organize and store your summer items, think about how they look and feel to you.

If you do not love them now, tell them "thank you for the memories" and let them go.

What are you letting go this year?

Your Kid is in College. You Need New Containers.

If you have plastic containers that are as old as your kid entering high school or college, you are worth new containers.

The crusty, microwaved spaghetti stains will not come out of the old ones.

Trust me.

What is the oldest plastic container in your home?
(bonus points for identifying the stain)

be better yourself.

Organizing 3 Items At a Time

Look around your desk, how does it look?
Perhaps a better question: How does it feel?

You know, calm and ready for action today or ugh, overwelmed, why bother, I need a coffee.

Getting you on the organized path starts with your first step.

Ready?
(this is not going to hurt at all)

Look at your desk.
Choose 3 items and make a decision, Keep or Trash.
If your keeping, put it away.
Trash ... well, you know. Bah-bye!
Feel better?

Repeat as frequently as needed for happy feelings.

What did you put away today?

Stuff

You gotta love this classic clip about stuff.

"Your house is a pile of stuff with a cover on it."
George Carlin
Enjoy the day!

What's your favorite stuff in your home?

Professional Organizers Are ...

Helping people get organized
is like giving someone with a broken leg
the ability to run.

I believe in you.

Get out there and enjoy the day!

Only Happy Endings

There is a history, story or drama to every item you have in your home.

If the history, story or drama is does not have a happy ending, your item no longer should be in your life.

Let it go.

What are you letting go?

All These Years And Not One Fart Joke!

The weekend is here and I say:
HAVE FUN!!

Perhaps you have some projects, perhaps even an organizing goal this weekend, remember to take the time to treat yourself.
“Don’t take life too seriously.
You’ll never get out alive.”
Bugs Bunny

With two boys, we live by hourly fart jokes on most days. And its true, Bugs never dropped a fart joke. You may ask:
"what do farts have to do with organizing?"

Frankly, nothing.

Except I was challenged to write including the word "fart" in a blog post at least 5 times. It's a fun. I like challenges.
Bottomline: farts are funny. BING!

Get out there and enjoy the weekend!!

What's your favorite Bugs Bunny quote?

Love It + Use It = Keep It

You are about to begin your organizing project.

Use this little organizing tip for sorting:
If your item makes you happy
AND
has a function in your life,
then keep it.

If you cannot answer "yes" to both, then it's time to part with it.

What do you have in your home that has lost it's use?
(You know, like tits on a boar hog)
