Gotta Love Kant

A recent organizing project client found this quote on her Dove candy bar wrapper:

“Science is organized knowledge. Wisdom is organized life.”
~Immanuel Kant

Being a rocket scientist I love it!
Adding the fact of being a professional organizer ... I love it even more!!

Just as Einstein leads us to believe that wisdom is a lifelong attempt to acquire it.  Being organized is ALSO a lifelong attempt to acquire it.

I am the first to admit.  My life is in a constant state of chaos, meaning also my desk at any moment (and sock drawer) is always at the brink of disaster.

Believe you will be organized and work at it as you can.
Be consistent with your purpose and you will achieve your goal.

I believe in you.  Do you?

What is your favorite quote?

That Cable Bird's Nest in Your Home

You gotta love all those electrical gadgets we have to make our lives easier.

But those cords ... oh, dear those cords and cables!

Here's a quick trick to keeping your electrical cables organized:

Find your twisted, tangled up mess of cables and start sorting them out.
Get them organized into neat little bundles, getting rid of those you no longer use or have no idea what device they go to.

How big is your cable nest?

Organizing Your Man's Tools

Surprise organizing projects are exciting!

"Carol" asked me to get her husband's tools organized as a surprise for Father's Day. This was a project he has talked about doing for quite some time, alas finding the time to organize the area never seem to happen.

Every time Carol's husband went to start a home project, he had to climb over and dig through his supplies. It was frustrating because he was constantly wasting time looking for the tools he needed. And when his project was finished, he pretty much just set his tool wherever he could balance them without everything tumbling to the ground.

Now, touching a man's tools is nearly as dangerous as messing with a woman's closet, especially if they do not know. Carol gave me some guidance on what her husband would like, then pretty much let me loose to work some organizing magic.

Nearly everything was removed from the area and grouped into like groups; paints, power tools, cords, fasteners, tapes, etc. The shelving was slid together a bit to save floor space and EVERYTHING went back onto the shelves.

Seriously, there was a small grocery bag of scrap papers and broken items removed. That was it. Hey, I know better than tossing out a man's tool without asking. The results was pretty remarkable.

Carol was so excited with the results. Better yet, her husband was pleasantly shocked at his newly organized tool room. Hooray!!

What project would you love to be done for you?

Farting and Organizing ... it's all good

So, my youngest son walks up to me and says:
"Mom, I think getting organized is like farting."
"Um ... why is that?", as I snicker (oh, you laughed too)
"Because both make you feel good after you do it."
~wise words from a 10.5 year old boy.

With two boys, we live daily on hourly fart jokes.

Getting organized truly does make you feel better.
You can breathe easier.
You're less stressed.
And, you're out enjoying life.

Find some time, even 5 minutes, each day to focus and become more organized.  Need some guidance on where to start?
Try these Challenges.

You’ll never get out alive.”
